The Brilliance of Iranian Ethnic Attire at the Cannes Festival

22 May 2025

Naghmeh Kiumarsi, a prominent Iranian fashion designer, captivated international attention once again at the 2025 Cannes Fashion Week by unveiling a collection inspired by the traditional attire of 12 Iranian ethnic groups. This collection featured garments reflecting the heritage of Qashqai, Kurdish, Turkmen, Bandari, Mazani, Gilaki, and several other Iranian communities—reimagined through a blend of traditional elements and a postmodern artistic lens.

In an interview with Iran Modeling, Kiumarsi stated:

“This collection is a tribute to the history and culture of Iranian women, and a reinterpretation of twelve garments from various Iranian ethnicities.”

Using handwoven fabrics, traditional embroidery, and motifs drawn from Iranian arts, she created a distinctive collection that not only showcases visual elegance but also conveys profound cultural messages.

With over two decades of experience in the fashion industry, Kiumarsi has consistently sought to introduce Iranian culture and artistry to global audiences. Her previous collections, such as “The Garden of Shah Abbas’s Flowers,” showcased at Milan Fashion Week, received widespread acclaim. In that collection, inspired by the Shah Abbasi floral motif and incorporating velvet and Termeh fabrics, she successfully merged Safavid art with contemporary aesthetics.

Kiumarsi’s presence at international events such as Paris, Milan, and Cannes Fashion Weeks underscores her prominent standing in the global fashion scene. By emphasizing the preservation and celebration of Iranian heritage, she plays a significant role in enhancing Iran’s cultural image on the world stage.
